How they met . . .
Kayla - The Real Story
Well, it all started with a co-worker and I making a deal that when the next two cute guys walked into our store we would ask them for their phone numbers. I am not a very forward person, and to this day I am not sure what came over me, but I did it! When Brandon and his friend came up to the counter to check out (Brandon purchased some pretty awful cologne) we asked them for their digits. A few hours later, not wanting to seem too desperate, we texted them and set up a double date.
The double date was less than perfect to say the least... bowling is just not my thing. But afterwards, Brandon called me to set up a date with just the two of us and we hit it off instantly!
Brandon's Story -
I have always thought of myself as a good looking guy but modest. It is just a gift I have. One day, my friend Josh and I were just minding our own business walking around the Legends. All the ladies were whistling and hollering at us, you know… a normal day. Josh really wanted to look at some cowboy boots so we walked into Cavender's. Right off the bat we noticed these two creepy girls just staring at us. We blew it off and went to look at the boots. It wasn’t until I walked closer to where the two girls were that I really started to wonder what those girls were looking at. It was starting to scare me a little bit. Finally we went to check out. I bought a sweet hat and he bought cologne. While we were walking up, I caught the eye of one of the creepy girls and she smiled then turned away. When we were purchasing the items we got to talking to them. I wasn't sure at first if they were flirting or not.
Now, fast forward 3 or 4 hours, I was at home playing video games with Andy and Josh when I got a text message. I saw who it was from and I was thinking "OH MY what weirdos." We texted for a while and finally set up a date. If you could think of a more awkward date, multiply it by 1000 and you would know how it went. We went to eat at a Mexican restaurant and I made Kayla pay for herself. I believe she even paid her own way at the bowling alley! I don’t know why she even continued to talk to me after that or agree to go on a second date. But she did.
That was how we met... not the most conventional way but that is who we are. Nothing with us is done the way it should be and I love it. Nothing is boring and every day is always a new adventure. I'm so happy I found someone like Kayla. She is everything I want!
"This was the most nerve racking thing I have ever done! Kayla and I had been looking around for rings off and on. After finding out what she liked and a lot of looking around on my part, I finally went to Especially Jewelry and found the one. This was long before I knew how or when I was going to ask; all I knew at the time was I had to have that ring. When I brought it home, Corey took apart one of his speakers so we could hide it. A few months went by and I wanted to give the ring to Kayla so bad. My mom and dad kept asking me why I was waiting so long. I just couldn't think of a perfect way to ask. I wanted it to be unique to us. With some help from a couple of friends (thanks Jacob and Molly) we thought of the perfect proposal. What better way is there than to ask in front of the store where we met? I had Molly make a sign that said "Kayla... because you are my best friend" and put it in one of the windows of Cavender’s. A few days before, Jacob had invited us out to dinner and Molly used the excuse of needing Kayla's advice on boots as the perfect way to get her to Cavender's.
The day finally came and that was all I could think of. I'm sure I made a lot of mistakes at work because I couldn’t focus on anything else. Kayla wasn't ready at all when I arrived! I didn't know how I was going to make her get ready quickly with out giving anything away.
I was so nervous as we were walking through the mall. My stomach was hurting and I was shaking a bit. Once she saw the sign in Cavender's window, she turned to me confused. I dropped on one knee and attempted to ask her. (I say attempted because I couldn’t get any words out. She started crying and so did I.) I put the ring on her without asking and then Jacob, Molly and Haley all ran out screaming and hugging us. It wasn’t until we were walking to the restaurant when I finally asked Kayla if she would marry me. Of course she said "YES!"
This was the happiest and most nerve racking day of my life but I couldn’t have picked a better person to spend the rest of my life with!" Brandon
